Trophy: 25 miles champion

 

Awarded to the rider with the fastest time in the Club 25 miles championship.

Minutes 29 Nov. 1970 A.G.M. “J. Davison offered a trophy to replace the Nesbitt 25 cup and the Nesbitt cup be left in the safe-keeping of J. Davison”.

Overall height 10.5”. Cup 7” high. Plinth 3.5” high, 4.5” diameter. A silver cup with plain curved handles and loose lid surmounted by a round brass badge of a racing cyclist. Winners names and dates are engraved on a silver band fitted to the black plinth.

The Rothman’s Shield

Awarded to the veteran achieving the best time on Standard in any 50 miles event.

Height 12”. Width 10.5”. A wooden shield with a silver scroll at top inscribed ‘Rothman’s Shield’. In the centre is a silver crested shield engraved ‘Ferryhill Wheelers C.C. Best on Standard Veterans 50’.Inset is a badge of F.W.C.C. in gold, blue and white.Individual shields record winners’ names and dates. A hinged stand is fitted at the back of the shield.

 

 

The Tom Mathews Trophy

Awarded for the fastest nett time in the Club 50 miles championship.

Minutes 6 Dec.1965 A.G.M “Proposed to purchase the Tom Mathews Memorial Trophy”.“ July 1966 “Purchased with donations from club members totalling £21.10.6”.“ 30 Oct. 1966 A.G.M. “Proposed extra money buy a small trophy each year for winner”“ 1967 “Purchase and engraving costs £18.5.0.”.Overall height 8.5”. Bowl 5.5” high, 8.5” diameter. Plinth 3” high, 6.5” diameter.

A silver rose bowl chased around its upper circumference with flowers and leaves. A silver grille clips on to the top edge of the bowl and a second silver grille, attached by four hooks to the upper grille, rests on the bottom of the bowl. It stands on a circular black plinth which has a silver band bearing winners’ names and dates.

 

 

50 Miles Champion:

Awarded to the fastest rider in the Club 50 miles championship.

Overall height 17”. Width 14”. A wooden shield with a silver scroll at the top engraved as follows:- ‘Ferryhill & District Cycling Club 50 miles Challenge Shield.
Presented by J.N. Pallister Esq. August 1912’. In the centre a large silver disc, set in a raised wooden circle, depicts 2 racing cyclists and a spectators’ stand with scenery in the background. A silver scroll at the bottom of the shield is inscribed:- ‘This shield was presented to Ferryhill Wh. C.C. by the late Mr. S.P. Halpin. Past member of the Ferryhill & District C.C.
Past winners:- J.E. Halpin 1912 Geo. Boland 1914 Geo. Willis 1915 S.P.Halpin 1916’. Single silver scrolls and plates around the shield bear winners’ names and dates from 1961 onwards. A hinged stand is attached to the back of the shield with a metal chain for hanging.
