We are almost there. The Teesside open events start on 10th March with the Cleveland Wheelers CC 21mile SPOCO circuit event in the Stokesley, North Yorkshire, area. With the closing date fast approaching, be reminded that Teesside time trials this year nearly all have a specific road bike category, so you can now compete on a level playing field with others using this type of machine. To bring attention to the specification you must adhere to if entering the road bike event, please see details below:

To enter a 2019 road bike specific event in the Teesside District, the following specification is appropriate to the conditions of entry:

The Rider:

• · No time trial style pointy helmets (including Kask Bambino), or helmets with built in visors should be worn.
• · No riding with elbows or forearms on the handlebars. If witnessed, competitor will be disqualified.

The Cycle:

• · The frame should be constructed in the traditional pattern, i.e. built around a main triangle.
• · No time trial style or triathlon forward extension bars with or without elbow pads should be present.
• · Wheels should be of a spoked construction, with a minimum of 12 spokes and a maximum depth of 60mm.

Please apply the spirit of the road bike competition in your equipment choice.

Congratulations to Steve Davies on winning Gold in the 4km aged 65+  team pursuit in Los Angeles along with Robert Barber, David Hughes and Mervyn Wilson, in a time of 5:04.349.

Howard Heighton has kindly agreed to organise a training weekend, details as follows;

Date 16/17th March

Day 1.

Gretna Newton Aycliffe to Bellingham - approx 100 miles

Overnight stay in Bellingham bunkhouse. There is a nearby pub for evening meals and drinks.

£22 pppn. We can can have full occupancy for £300. It sleeps maximum 15, but if we get less than that, we could divide the cost evenly if all agree.

Day 2. 

Self catering is available for breakfast, but a nearby cafe have agreed to open early if we want to eat there instead.

Bellingham - The Gretna - approx 100 miles. 

Baggage will be taken there and back.

Stop at Demesne Bunkhouse 45.38 Miles Total 97.02 Miles

1 room for 8 people, 1 for 4 and 1 for 3. Cost �22 each.

Van will be available to carry and collect luggage.

If required he can do a 70ish mile route for day two as well.

Ferryhill had three riders competing in this event, Andy Watson, John Hewison and Paul Tyler.
